About Adelaide Annexe & Canvas
April 2009 (The Beginning)
A father and son team with over 38 years full time experience between us. We are only newly established, but don’t let that worry you. Adelaide Annexe & Canvas is up and running and ready to fill your canvas needs.
Martin started his canvas career in 1970 working school holiday periods until 1976 and has been working full time in the industry since then. He has worked in 5 different establishments over the years plus 11 years as co-owner of Complete Canvas at Lonsdale SA. Experienced in all facets of the business from cutting, sewing and the production side of things, to sales, purchasing and many years as Office Manager and Operations Manager of one of the larger canvas manufacturers. Now back in the production area, he will bring the benefit of those many years of experience to the company’s clients.
Andrew also started during school holiday times from about the age of 13 and at 24, has now been cutting full time for 5 years. Having specialised in cutting and installing Caravan Annexes and Roll Out Awning Walls over the past 4 years Andrew will use that knowledge to ensure the quality and timeliness of our Caravan based products.
Our head machinist is Robyn, who has 22 years of sewing experience and has specialised in Annexes and Walls for the past 10 years. She will keep the quality high and deliver a product that you will be proud to own. (Robyn has left now , we would like to thank her for her efforts over our first couple of years)
The company also has the services of Chris in our office who has many years experience in all aspects of sales and office procedures.
So this is the Adelaide Annexe and Canvas team. We hope we can serve your canvas needs in the near future.
December 2010 (Update)
With steady growth thanks to our growing list of clients and customers, Adelaide Annexe and Canvas now have 9 staff and is able to serve the public even more than before. Number two son ‘Stephen’ is joining us (not a stranger to the canvas trade, Stephen had worked during the school holidays for many years), he is a qualified motor mechanic and brings lots of practical hands on experience to the company.
Our sewing staff now include, Julie, Marilyn and Sue. All highly experienced and competent machinists who are ready to pump out lots of quality canvas goods for you.
Jamie-Lee now joins Chris in our office and will help you with any enquiries you may have.
We are moving to a larger premises just next door. In late January 2011 you will find us at 19 Woodlands Terrace instead of 21. We need more room and a few more parking spots so feel free to visit and have us fill you canvas needs.
So this is now the Adelaide Annexe and Canvas team. We hope we can still serve your canvas needs in the near future.
March 2013 (Update)
Our business is growing and we are still serving our customer’s as best we can. We now have a team of ten happy employees and the days just seem to fly.
With the advent of a new super heavy duty sewing machine (it can sew up to 35mm thick), we are now manufacturing snatch and other recovery straps and webbing products, after 12 months of trial and testing our recovery products are now on the market and ready for action.
March 2015 (Update)
Continued growth over the past few years has seen us manufacturing more products than ever before. Lots of products are going interstate every day and custom work here in Adelaide is booming. Our never tiring staff are fantastic and really do care about each job that goes out to you, our customers.
We are currently in the throws of making new permanent camp tents for Ian and Lynn Conway of Kings Creek Station in the Northern Territory and you will see quite a few of our large Marquee roofs at various venues especially while the Fringe is on.
Annexes and Roll Out Awning Walls are still very popular and there is even a resurgence in Hoist Covers at the moment. We have had so many enquiries from interstate that we will now be sending them around the country as long as our customers are able to measure.
Beach shades are selling well, especially the deluxe model, something that we have made for years but once people could see them on display at the last few camping shows they have really taken off.
All in all an exciting time for us, we hope we can help you soon.
September 2020 (Update)
Moving on from 2015 we have continued to grow every year both in staff numbers and the list of customers that we have helped.
In mid 2018 we decided that we needed a bigger premise and very quickly found a site four times the size of Edwardstown and commenced our move to Thebarton in October that year. It was a huge task to move and set up this new factory, its taken almost 2 years to feel like we are almost sorted out.
The new premises meant that we could put in extra cutting benches, extra sewing machines. We now have the space for 25 to 30 Caravans compared to the old factory where we could only fit maybe 6.
With the extra room to grow, we now have 20 employees. We continue to get busier and are doing more and more jobs for interstate customers. Our caravan covers are being shipped to all states every month.
We celebrated our 10 year anniversary in April 2019, so let’s see what the next 10 years brings. We continue to thank all our customers for all your support.
